Walker Jones Adds Five New Hives

Over the last 12 months we have been training teachers from three DC schools to tend to hives and begin Junior Beekeepers clubs at each.  To kick it off, Walker Jones School, which already has three hives on their property at their urban farm, installed five hives on their green roof of the school building.

These five hives will benefit from the nectar flow that has only just begun this year thanks to a very cool and prolonged spring.  Having the kids watch the install was a both harrowing and fun...lots of noise but no injuries.

Here is the video of the installation:

  1. What and where are the schools that are involved?

  2. These are DC Public elementary schools: Horace Mann, Garrison, Walker Jones, Janney. We are helping to create junior beekeepers clubs in each. Each also has an agricultural program as part of their curriculum.
