At the sixth annual Rooting DC -- a forum for urban gardeners -- DC Honeybees held two workshops, packing a classroom at Woodrow Wilson High School. Organized by DC Greens, the forum pulled in around 800 participants. Our session broke down the process and pitfalls of raising honeybees in the city.
If you're like our workshop participants and are drawn to beekeeping by the golden prospect of all that honey, now's the time to sign up DC Honeybees' beekeeping class, which is scheduled for March 2 and 3. Two three-hour classes leave you with all the knowhow to start your own hive, plus a veil, guide book, Langstroth hive and an overall excitement to promote some pollination in your own backyard.
With bee packages arriving at the end of March, the time is now to start thinking about installing (or repopulating) your hive.
