My brother sent me an article about a beekeeper who sprayed his colony with a bit of diluted kombucha and was amazed to see the health of his colony improve and thrive.

I have been experimenting with several designs for nucs over the past year, trying to determine what works best for me given my specific needs.  This year my needs revolve around a 20-package haul from Georgia of small-cell bees that I hope to making into nucs I can sell in May.

FEED YOUR BEES!

It is that time folks, especially with our mild winter, to get your bee colonies pumped up for the coming nectar flow.  I have been visiting my hives and topping them off with syrup and adding pollen patties above the brood nest to stimulate brood production.  It is going to be a busy weekend of feeding for me, but the reward will be a more substantial honey harvest.

Visit to Paris Barns, Paris, VA - VIDEO

We got out of the city yesterday morning early and headed west past Middleburg to visit some hives at a farm in this sleepy town.  These two hives here have struggled in the first season and we had to re-stock one of the hives in the summer.  I was worried I was going to open them up and find a pile of dead bees.
